| Battlefield 3 details leaked? |
|
The first details on Battlefield 3, the third "proper" instalment in EA's multiplayer big battle series, seem to have leaked onto the net via a fan site.
The details are based around a "leaked" PDF file supposedly intended for EA investors, which indicates that the next game will be officially announced in January 2008 for a release later that year.
According to the document, the third game returns to the near-future setting of Battlefield 2 and runs on a modified Bad Company engine, called Frostbite DX - the 'DX' supposedly referring to DirectX 10.
Eight maps and support for up to 40-players per team (40v40!) is touted, along with five familiar classes; Sniper, Assault, Engineer, Medic and Support. There's even talk of an MMO-style "soldier" system which lets you create and cusomise your own avatar.

Battlefield 2142 Northern Strike Booster Pack Brings Futuristic Close-Quarters Combat and Delivers All-New Maps, Vehicles, Unlocks and more for Battlefield 2142
The battle for survival wages on! Today we announce that Battlefield 2142™: Northern Strike* is currently in development for the PC. The booster pack is being developed at the EA Digital Illusions (DICE) studio in Stockholm, Sweden and is slated for release in March 2007.
Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike drops gamers deep into a desperate conflict for control of Earth's last scraps of inhabitable land following the onset of a cataclysmic new ice age. The Pan-Asian Coalition (PAC) has secretly moved into mainland Europe, using abandoned urban areas to establish new strongholds in a last-ditch push for superiority. The European Union must quickly mobilize north to dislodge PAC forces from a series of urban strongholds and regain the upper hand.
Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike features three new maps, including the infamous WWII battle scene at the Bridge at Remagen, an Alpine Titan docking harbour in Port Bavaria and a claustrophobic showdown in the Liberation of Leipzig. The booster pack also features new vehicles including the EU’s heavily armed IFV Goliath and the PAC's hovering light IFV Hachimoto in addition to new unlocks, new badges and ribbons, new gameplay and more.
"Our number one goal with Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike was to give fans more of the close-quarters combat, increased persistence and new toys they've been asking for," said Kristoffer Bergqvist, the booster pack's producer. "We've also added gameplay enhancements including two brand new vehicle types in an asymmetrical set-up. Furthermore, we're introducing the Titan game mode into an urban setting and will debut the intensified Conquest Assault Lines game mode."

| EA Confirms Battlefield 2142 Booster Pack |
|
Yesterday, news broke that an error on the Battlefield 2142 website had revealed an upcoming Booster Pack for futuristic title. The information was quickly removed from the site, but not before it was picked up by eagle-eyed fans of the series.
Electronic Arts has now confirmed the pack, Northern Strike, along with a release date in March.
Furthermore, we're introducing the Titan game mode available into an urban setting and will debut the intensified Conquest Assault Lines game mode."
The pack will include three new maps leading to the Liberation of Leipzig, and two new vehicles, along with further gameplay enhancements and unlockables.

| More Than 1 Million Rounds of Battlefield 2142 Played |
|
Today EA announced that, since its launch on October 18th, more than one million rounds of Battlefield 2142 have been played online. EA also pointed out the oddly depressing note that this number means more than 1,500 years worth of time have been spent playing the game.
The team at DICE is still hard at work on the game, making updates designed to refine the online experience. The latest patch is available for download on the Official Battlefield 2142 Website. The site will also host a series of behind-the-scenes glimpses of the DICE Live team.

| Battlefield 2142 & Battlefield 2 Patch News |
|
The Battlefield 2142 website has some more news on the upcoming patch for Battlefield 2142, as well as a small blurb on the upcoming 1.42 patch for Battlefield 2. The DICE Live team will be adding the following changes and fixes to 2142:
- Assault Rifle Improvement: We have made slight adjustments to the deviation of the Assault rifles to increase the accuracy of short burst fire. Long duration full auto fire will still create significant deviation. These changes will help the assault burst-fire performance in medium range fire fights.
- Server Stability Improvements: We have made some improvements to the server stability. These improvements are currently being Beta tested by our ranked server partners in an effort to have a solid final release. We will continue our effort to provide increased stability with each new BF2142 Update.
- Fixed an issue with the Silver Titan Destruction Badge not being awarded when core is destroyed.
- Fixed an issue with the ground defense kills not being properly counted towards the Ground Defense Ribbon.
There have been some questions regarding stats sites for Battlefield 2142. We will be allowing these stat sites to provide the services many of you have enjoyed with BF2. However we are currently taking steps to ensure that the activity of these sites, specifically the additional traffic they create for the Stats Database Servers, does not negatively impact players in game. Over the course of the next few weeks we will be finalizing the steps needed to ensure a quality experience for all players.
We will also be finalizing patch 1.41 for Battlefield 2. More information regarding the content and final release date for this patch will be released next week.
So there you have it, EA and DICE will continue to support Battlefield 2 post Battlefield 2142 launch, contrary to the rumors of doom and gloom we usually hear.

| IGN Battlefield 2142 Guide |
|
If you are a subscriber to IGN, they have recently posted up a full guide for Battlefield 2142. Here's what they had to say:
Pay attention recruit, you've got a lot to learn. As you may recall from history class, the ice age of 2106 caught the entire world off guard. Economies collapsed, governments fought over non-frozen land, and war engulfed the world. After years of combat, many of these nations joined forces to form two coalitions: The European Union (EU) and the Pan Asian Coalition (PAC). These superpowers have been locked in a war over land ever since.
Battlefield 2142 is the latest entry in the Battlefield series. In addition to the customary new maps, weapons, and vehicles, a major game mode has been added as well. These additions can be daunting for veterans, but may completely overwhelm greenhorns, given the steep learning curve. This guide provides a complete overview of the game's many facets that, if followed, will ensure you make it through the war alive. To check out the full version of this guide, click here.

| Battlefield Services Maintenance Schedule |
|
A new announcement was posted up over on the official EA forums about the maintenance schedule that the Battlefield series follows. Take a look:
What are the maintenance times for Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2 Modern Combat, and Battlefield 2142? Why can't I connect or properly access Battlefield services during these times?
The Battlefield franchise has many moving parts, and at times needs to be re-synched, updated, or restarted to make sure that errors and issues with the service are avoided or repaired. Electronic Arts reserves the times listed below to perform maintenance on Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2 Modern Combat, and Battlefield 2142.
Standard Maintenance Window - Tuesday: 12 a.m. - 3 a.m. Pacific Time 1 a.m. - 4 a.m. Mountain Time 2 a.m. - 5 a.m. Central Time 3 a.m. - 6 a.m. Eastern Time
Emergency Maintenance Window - Thursday: 12 a.m. - 3 a.m. Pacific Time 1 a.m. - 4 a.m. Mountain Time 2 a.m. - 5 a.m. Central Time 3 a.m. - 6 a.m. Eastern Time
Although the maintenance windows are not necessarily used every week, if you cannot connect or have issues with authentication, statistics, buddy lists, servers, etc. during these times, it is likely due to some form of maintenance and you should try again after the maintenance period is over.
